Beginning as a Native American village, Cross Village has been home to many different ethnicities over the years. The end of the ‘Tunnel’ drops you off at one of the oldest settlements of continuous occupancy in the state of Michigan, Cross Village. The main building, which houses those two businesses, was the south half of the Juilleret’s restaurant, passing through the generations of the Juilleret family to it’s present name of Pierson’s Grill and Spirits. In 1895, Joseph and Martha Juilleret opened a boat livery and an ice cream parlor. Other businesses in the area included Emmet County Bank, now operating as First Community Bank. In 1880 to 1920, the area thrived from the booming lumbering industry. The establishment of Richard Cooper’s trading post and general store in the village in 1853 marked the beginning of commercial activity. It went through many names from L’Arbre Croche, to Petit Traverse, until it was incorporated as Harbor Springs in 1880. In 1847, L’Arbre Croche, or Crooked Tree as named by the French, had the largest concentration of Native Americans in the state. As was much of Michigan, the first settlers of what is now Harbor Springs were the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. Cancellation made within two weeks of the event forfeits all deposits.The views along this 27.5 mile drive are designated a state Scenic Heritage Route.

Notice of ride registration cancellation made two weeks prior to the event will receive a refund, less a $10 administrative fee per person. Registration and deposit are requested fourteen days prior to the event for planning purposes. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Be sure your bike is in good working order. Riders must obey State of Michigan Bicycling Laws and sign a waiver at pre-ride check in. Saturday pre-ride check in 7:30-9:00 a.m. Short sleeve shirt $20, long sleeve shirt $25. To guarantee your shirt, registration must be received two weeks in advance. They are created and printed locally by Five Star Screen Printing. Harbor Springs Cycling Classic t-shirts have professionally designed graphic art on the back and a pocket size logo on the front. Please call 23 to make your reservations. Within two weeks all deposits are forfeited. Cancellation of the Lodging Package made two weeks prior to the event will receive a refund, less a $20 administration fee. Deposit for double occupancy is $175 and for single occupancy is $110. It includes Friday and Saturday night's lodging, breakfast 'to go' each morning, and the ride registration fee.

#TUNNEL OF TREES PLUS#

The Lodging Package is only $160 per person, plus taxes, based on double occupancy or $225 plus taxes for single occupancy. Spend the weekend at Birchwood Inn for a complete cycling experience. Advance registrations for lunch only are adults $15, children 6-12 $10, age 5 and under free. Participants who register at the event pay and additional $5 on all fees. All activity starts and stops at the Birchwood Inn. Cyclists must start between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., lunch pick up ends at 3:00 p.m. Fee includes route map, refreshment bag, sag wagon, and sack lunch.

To register in advance for the ride only: Adults $30, children 6-12 $20, age 5 and under free. After your ride, join us for an awesome sack lunch, it's included! You have a choice of 20, 45, or 60 miles to cycle. All three of the road routes include the Tunnel of Trees, one of the most scenic roads in Northern Michigan. That's right, we have added a paved trail route that utilizes the Little Traverse Wheelway, where you can choose from 14 to 30 miles to ride. All routes include the Tunnel of Trees or the Little Traverse Wheelway.
